App Assures Instant Action Against Anomalies During Election

GUWAHATI: Every possible measure is taken up to ensure a smooth election, which means calculated digital utilization. A mobile app cVIGIL has been launched by the Election Commission of India for the citizens to quicken the pace of complaint reception.

cVIGIL has been formulated keeping the elections in mind to ensure urgent address of complaints. Any person can report through the app, if during the elections, the model code of conduct and expenditure are observed to be violated. The app is a user-friendly and easy to operate android application that can be used for reporting violations. VIGIL stands for Vigilant Citizen and it emphasizes the proactive and responsible role citizens can play in the conduct of free and fair elections. Live photo or video with auto location capture from within the app has been enabled to ensure digital evidence for concerned authorities to act instantly.

The app can be installed and used on any Android smartphone equipped with a camera, good internet connection and GPS access. The app will connect the user with the District Control Room, Returning Officer and Field Unit / Static Surveillance Teams. The user can also opt to send anonymous complaints; however, inbuilt features will prevent it from being misused.
