APSC Cash-For-Job Scam: CBI Raids Rakesh Paul’s Residences

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI: CBI sleuths raided former APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) chairman Rakesh Paul’s residences in Guwahati and Tura simultaneously on Tuesday.

The agency is investigating clues that may lead it to ascertain if the former APSC chief has property disproportionate to his known sources of income or not. The CBI did register a case against Paul following an order from the Gauhati High Court.

In Guwahati the CBI sleuths raided Paul’s residences at Shaktigarh Path, Srimantapur and Udalbakra. While the property at Shaktigarh is in the name of his mother Hira Rani Paul, the one at Srimantapur is in the name of his wife Sunanda Paul.

Meanwhile, simultaneous raids were also conducted at Tura by other CBI teams.

The Gauhati High Court is likely to give its verdict on May 15, 2019 on the CBI’s plea for filing a case and carrying out investigation into former APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) chairman Rakesh Paul’s assets allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income. The High Court heard the CBI’s plea on Wednesday and fixed May 15, 2019 as the next date for hearing the plea.

Recently, the CBI submitted a preliminary report on the assets of Rakesh Paul to the High Court. The report was following a directive issued by the High Court to the CBI for an inquiry into the property of the former APSC chief.
