GUWAHATI, July 31: During police investigation, the arrested accused officers of the Assam Public Service Commission were found to be involved with the instant case and they were member of the crime. The accused officers obtained the job of Assam Civil Service by adopting unlawful means in collusion with arrested accused person Rakesh Kumar Paul, other arrested members of APSC and other officials and agents of APSC.

Notably, the Court of the Special Judge sent 20 ACS, APS and other allied services officers along with two other middlemen allegedly involved with the scam to judicial custody on Monday vide Dibrugarh PS Case No 936/16 u/s 7/13 (1) (a) (b) (d) (2) the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120(B)/420/463/468/471/471(A/201 IPC.

During investigation sufficient evidence were found against arrested accused persons to persecute them in the case. They have procured the prestigious job of Assam Civil Service by means of adopting malpractice and illegal means. The accused persons committed such a heinous crime which is against the state and lost reputation of the Public Service Commission as well as demoralized the efficient candidates of the state. They were working as civil servants of the State Government in different capacities and their custodial interrogation has corroborated the modus operandi, the extent of the racket run by Rakesh Kumar Paul and his other associates for providing prestigious government job conducted by APSC in lieu of cash and not on the basis of merit. All of them allegedly worked as middlemen for some of the other candidates who are yet to be arrested. To unearth this nexus and conspiracy, the arrested officers and the middlemen should not be enlarged on bail. They are required for joint interrogation in the jail so as to find out the modus operandi of the whole racket of illegal appointments run by the arrested accused Paul and his associates. This will help in establishing the ways and means adopted by members of this unholy racket to go about their activities of providing prestigious Government job.
