GUWAHATI: The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has issued a recommendation to the State government to provide oxygen services at all levels to provide basic health care to the people in the current crisis caused by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the newly formed regional political party, easy access to oxygen services in the current situation is the biggest challenge for COVID-infected people. The public will be most beneficial if the benefit of getting oxygen in such a situation is made more and easily accessible, the AJP stated.

In a memorandum sent to the Assam Chief Secretary on Sunday, AJP general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan stated, "It takes some time to start medical care through screening and other formalities; however, the infected person needs oxygen at an early stage, but it is too late to complete the formalities, leading to many serious illnesses due to lack of oxygen. Many patients can be saved from getting into critical condition if they have access to adequate oxygen services."

Referring to the State government's declaration that there is no shortage of oxygen in Assam so far, Bhuyan said that since we have enough oxygen in our hands, we need to make it more accessible.

"Our party's suggestion in this regard is that as soon as a patient or potential patient needs oxygen in a hospital, he or she should be able to get oxygen services at an early stage without any formalities. Many people will be benefited if oxygen services can be provided at home or in public places outside the hospitals as well," added Bhuyan.
