ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority) to Procure five FRP boats

GUWAHATI: Flood is a disaster, and fighting floods with ill-equipped personnel often prove to be disastrous. With such a realization, the ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority) is going to procure five FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) boats to add to its prowess in disaster management exercises.

Breaches of embankments in Assam when there is flood are very common. The flow of water in breach of embankment is very turbulent, and disaster management personnel cannot dare such turbulent current with the boats that are under their disposal now. However, the disaster management personnel can overcome such turbulent rush of water with FRP boats. The five FRP boats are expected to reach the State by March 2020, well ahead of the likely first wave of floods next year. Procuring such boats is time-taking as their manufacture is based on demand.

Talking to The Sentinel, ASDMA’s State Project Coordinator Minakshi Das Nath said, “We’ve ordered five FRP boats, each with a carrying capacity of 20 personnel. We hope such boats will help our personnel enjoying an edge over the situation when there are breaches of embankments during floods.”
