ASDMA conducts search & rescue training for forest guards in Kohora

GUWAHATI: A three-day search and rescue training for forest guards on management of animals in disasters for forest guards of the Kaziranga National Park and Manas National Park has been organized by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Golaghat in association with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) from Wednesday at the Paramananda Lahon Auditorium in Kohora.

The training was inaugurated by Pallavi Gogoi, ADC-cum-CEO, DDMA, Golaghat and attended by Ramesh Kumar Gogoi, DFO, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, Bokakhat.

Two resource persons from ASDMA, Dr Kripaljyoti Mazumdar and Kishore Dutta, Inspector Prithvi Singh and his team from 1st Bn NDRF, Ronney Rajkumar, District Project Officer, and field officers from DDMA, Golaghat were present during the inaugural session.

During the keynote address, Pallabi Gogoi said that the training programme would help the frontline forest staff in handling secondary disasters and also build better coordination with the other response agencies. During his speech, Ramesh kumar Gogoi stressed on reviving and relying on the traditional coping mechanism in view of Assam being a multi-hazard State.

A total of 48 forest officials and forest guards from the Kaziranga National Park and Manas National Park attended the training programme. Participants would be trained on basic First Aid, rescue techniques, carcass disposal, prerequisites and safety of animal handlers, basics of OBM and IRB boat operation and so on during the training sessions.
