GUWAHATI: The AGP will celebrate its 34th foundation day on October 14 by showcasing the strength of regional forces.
Two important regional forces-Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and Rabha Jatiya Aikya Mancha (RJAM) – will participate in the foundation day celebrations scheduled to be held at Uttar Abhyapuri in Bongaigaon district.
BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary and RJAM chief Tankeshwar Rabha are expected to attend the AGP foundation day. During the function a few Congress leaders are expected to join the Asom Gana Parishad.
AGP president Atul Bora told reporters on Sunday that the Asom Gana Parishad will continue to work on the ideology that led to the birth of his party in Golaghat in 1985. He said the party will live up to the expectations of the people.
Bora said even though the AGP has faced several political ups and downs since its birth, the party is determined to work on the issue of regionalism. Ahead of the foundation day, Bora recalled and paid tributes to martyrs of the Assam Agitation.
Meanwhile, the AGP, which started a membership drive ahead of the foundation day, has drawn around 18 lakh new members.a
