GUWAHATI: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) student wing Asom Chatra Parishad (ACP) launched a student library on Wednesday with an aim to help the needy students with necessary books. In view of the current situation prevailing due to the nationwide lockdown, the ACP has also started an initiative to donate books to the needy.

ACP president Trinayan Baruah said during the first phase they will collect used books. The workers will receive books from May 6 to May 26 and parallely phone numbers will be issued for the needy students to contact for books. The books will be donated from May 26 to June 6.

Baruah said, "Right now the class 12 students are our first target. Two modes will be made available to contact us i.e. through Gmail and WhatsApp. However we feel that most of the students in rural areas don't have access to smart phones and they're the neediest ones. Thus we have launched a few phone numbers and they can call us. A total of 12 numbers will be issued for this purpose"

It is to be mentioned that ACP has further started an app for online classes which will be made available for the students soon. "We've started the student library; the app will be launched within a few days. If this effort receives response and becomes a success, we will expand it," said the ACP president.
