GUWAHATI: Asom Unnati Sabha had a meeting under the chairmanship of its president, Samujjal Bhattacharya, recently at Swahid Bhawan and took certain decisions for the unemployed youth of the state. The Sabha emphasised the agriculture sector, where they will first start with the cultivation of mustard on 100 bighas of land and pumpkin cultivation on 40 bighas of land at Maijaan in the Dibrugarh district from October 6.

They will be focusing on how to increase the fish production in Sasoni, Dibrugarh district. These activities will be conducted under the Dibrugarh district students' union and the Dibrugarh unit of the Asom Unnati Sabha.

The Sivasagar unit of the Asom Unnati Sabha, along with the local weavers of the district, will start weaving gamosas. With the support of 100 local weavers with 30 handlooms, the Goalpara district will soon begin producing gamosas.

The Golaghat district has started papaya cultivation and will be cultivating various species of bananas on 50 bighas of land. Also, they are planning to cultivate mustard, black lentil, lemon, and honey on 500 bighas of land on the sandbank of Brahmaputra.

Under the Nalbari district students' union and Nalbari unit of Asom Unnati Sabha, there will be mustard cultivation on 100 bigha of land, along with the production of coriander on 500 bighas of land.

The Nagaon unit of Asom Unnati Sabha and the Silabondha Sipinigaon, Nagaon district students' union unit 50 local weavers, have started producing gamosas.

The Baksa unit of Asom Unnati Sabha will be cultivating lemons on 30 bighas of land. The Tamulpur district students' union, along with the Tamulpur unit of Asom Unnati Sabha, will start producing another species of banana called 'Malbhug' on 40 bighas of land.

The Sabha has not only focused on the agricultural sector but will also initiate skill development training for the youth.

In the press conference on Friday, Samujjal Bhattacharya said, "There are about 25 lakh unemployed youth in the state, and the government has assured jobs to only 1 lakh. So to solve this problem, we have taken this huge step where every person is employed and earns a livelihood. Along with the economic survey, we will be undertaking economic projects after the Durga Puja. Every kind of support will be provided, like technical, market value, seeds, and others. Our aim is to enhance local productivity and increase local market value."

Asom Unnati Sabha, the general secretary of Asom Unnati Sabha, Sarath Hazarika, said, "Unemployment has become a bigger issue in our state. To get rid of it, we have taken this huge step, and various departments have come forward to lend us a helping hand. We will also focus on women's employment. Our aim is to enhance our local markets and vendors and increase market productivity. Agriculture University will be helping us in our mission."

Asom Unnati Sabha Advisor, Utpal Sarmah, said, "We are with this new generation. Right now, there is economic instability, and our aim is to bring stability. We will preserve our local vendors and our local production, so we have stepped into this."
