Assam Don Bosco University Convocation to Witness 766 Graduation

Guwahati, Sept 6: The Seventh convocation ceremony of the Assam Don Bosco University will be held at the Tepesia Campus of the university on Saturday, which will see a total of 766 students from across the globe graduating from the university.

Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, S.S Ahluwalia, Governor of Assam Jagdish Mukhi and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal have consented to attend the August ceremony of the Assam Don Bosco University.

The Chancellor of the University, Fr Januarius Sangma and Vice Chancellor, Fr Stephen Mavely, will be the other speakers at the solemn function.

A host of dignitaries from civil, Church and academic institutions of the region will also be gracing the occasion¸ which will be webcast live on www.dbuniversity.ac.in.

The 766 students from across the globe who will graduating during the Convocation ceremony includes 117 from B Tech, 27 from BCA, 31 from M.Tech, 56 from MSW, 18 from MCA, 35 from MBA, 20 from Psychology, 7 from Mass Communication, 9 from Education, 19 from Physics, 2 from Biochemistry, 5 from Biotechnology, and 19 from Microbiology departments. Apart from this 328 graduates of the Distance Education Wing of the University will also graduate on the occasion. Doctoral degrees will be conferred on 13 scholars.

“Gold Medals under various categories will be awarded to 17 outstanding graduates with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average in each program,” said a spokesman of the university while adding that the Chancellor’s and the Vice Chancellor’s medals, for overall outstanding performance and notable contribution to campus life, will be awarded to two graduating students at the Convocation.

“Also, as an expression of solidarity, every graduating participant at the convocation will be honoured with a specially prepared scarf made exclusively for this event,” the spokesman said.

It may be mentioned here that established in 2008 as the first State University in the private sector, the University has regularly held its Convocations. This year the annual celebratory ceremony of the University Community to recognize excellence and educational achievement will be celebrated around the theme for the current academic year, “We are the choices we make!”
