GUWAHATI: The State Excise department on Saturday directed the liquor retailers in Assam to follow the revised Excise Duty structure. The State Cabinet on Friday gave its nod to 25% tax on the MRP (Maximum Retail Price) of IMFL (Indian-made foreign liquor) products to earn additional revenue of Rs 1,000 crore.

The six new guidelines are:

Retailers are not allowed to sell or lift any Excise product till the new MRP is registered by the department and duly notified.

All Excise Superintendents shall ensure the accounting of stocks having details of the existing brands and MRP etc.

The retailers are directed to pay the Additional Excise Duty and VAT (Value Added Tax) for the stocks under the possession through the Treasury challan online portal for which the demand notice shall be issued by the authorities concerned.

All wholesale warehouses and licensees shall ensure the pasting of new MRP stickers masking the old MRPs for the entire stocks lying in their possession.

Additional Excise Duty and VAT arising from the difference between the new and old MRPs shall have to be deposited by the wholesale licensees for the stock in their possessions through online portal. The demand notice and time period for depositing the same shall be issued by the Excise department.

The licensees of bottling plants and breweries are directed to arrange for pasting of new MRP stickers by masking the old MRPs on the stocks. The order is applicable on all Excise products except country spirit.
