Assam: GCC Student Loses Hearing Ability After Teacher's Assault

GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident at Guwahati Commerce College (GCC), a 6th-semester student lost his hearing ability after a professor allegedly slapped him in the classroom.

The victim boy has been identified as Subham Kar, a B.Com 6th Semester studying in Guwahati Commerce College in Guwahati city.

The professor identified as Hemanta Kumar Deka allegedly slapped the boy in the classroom because of certain misunderstandings.

According to reports, the boy was sitting in the classroom with his hand on his face because of which the teacher thought he was hiding and laughing.

Deka then slapped the boy after which he was unable to hear anything. Being concerned over the matter Subham Kar called his father and narrated the entire incident.

The father and son duo immediately reached the Chandmari Police Station in Guwahati to complain against the teacher for such an assault.

However, the police officials told that the boy needs to go for a medical check-up to find out the exact cause of his hearing inability.

Soon after this, Subham Kar accompanied by his father reached GMCH (Guwahati Medical College and Hospital) where he underwent surgery.

The reports showed that the boy has suffered internal injuries and bleeding in his left ear due to the slap by the professor and doctor asked him to avoid any stressful activities

After the medical checkup, the student's father registered an FIR against the accused professor at the Chandmari Police Station.

While speaking about the incident, Kar said that earlier similar incidents took place in the Guwahati Commerce College but no strict action was taken.

He said that due to such incidents students not only faced physical problems but also become victims of mental torture.

Meanwhile, police have been investigating and neither the college authorities nor the accused professor has responded to the matter.
