GUWAHATI: The State government has decided to resume the AADHAAR enrollment exercise, and stated that SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) issued by UIDAI will be strictly followed in this regard.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the State-Level Aadhaar Implementation Committee, Assam, presided over by State Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna. The meeting also discussed the extension of Contract Agreement of the Vendors and enrolment by other Agencies.

The AADHAAR enrollment exercise remains suspended as of now owing to COVID-19.

Regarding the decisions taken during the meeting, Dr M Angamuthu, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Assam, General Administration Department (GAD) told The Sentinel, "With regard to the resumption of enrolment activities in the districts, it has been decided that enrolment activities will resume in all districts, except for the Containment Zones.

"To expedite the enrolment process, other Departments like Education, Panchayat & Rural Development, Labour Welfare, Tea Tribes Welfare, and the Social Welfare Department among others will also take up the Aadhaar enrollment activities. "Considering the various schemes for Tea Garden areas, Aadhaar Enrolment Exercise will be conducted in the tea garden areas in the 'camp mode'. "A review meeting will be held at the end of June."
