GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam is grim, and that has moved the State government to release Rs 46.10 crore for gratuitous relief (GR) to 29 districts and 21 subdivisions.

The Revenue and Disaster Management department had received GR requirements from various districts and sub-divisions. The department examined the requirements and released the amount from its SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund).

While Rs 3 crore each has been released to Barpeta, Kamrup and Dhubri districts, Rs 2 crore each has been released to Majuli, South Salmara & Mankachar and Sonitpur districts. Rs 1 crore has been released to Kamrup (M) district.

The fund is meant for the supply of food and other materials like tarpaulin for flood-affected people. Fodder for livestock is also covered by GR funds. With bulk of the GR funds meant for fiscal 2020-21 spent in the fight against COVID-19, the department had to re-appropriate Rs 150 crore to the GR head recently.
