Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi Condoled George Fernandes’ Demise

GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi condoled the death of former union minister George Fernandes.

In a condolence message, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi said, “Pained to learn the passing away of George Fernandes, a former minister, a trade unionist and above all a great human being”. He belonged to a genre of politician who was bold, frank and farsighted. During his long association with the people, he made valuable contributions which enriched the public life, political circle and empowered the poor and marginalized. A visionary minister he made tangible changes to the portfolios he held and gave them an important connotation. “I express my heartfelt condolences to the demise of this towering leader. May his soul rest in peace”, Jagdish Mukhi added.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also mourned the demise of the former Railway, Defense Minister George Fernandes who breathed his last on Tuesday.

In a condolence message, Chief Minister Sonowal said, “I am saddened to learn the death of George Fernandes, a towering mass leader who worked tirelessly for the empowerment of poor and marginalized sections of the society. He also contributed immensely as the Union Minister and has had a great role in the growth of the country. His death is a huge loss to the nation. A fearless leader he spoke vociferously for the ideology he stood for. As a trade union leader, he also contributed greatly for socio-economic development of the working class. I express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and well-wishers of late Fernandes. I also pray to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul”. Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary has deeply condoled the demise of the former Union Minister as well.

In a condolence statement, Minister Patowary stated, “A leader of the masses, George Fernandes always stood for the best democratic practices. He was a trade unionist and a crusader fighting for the rights of the marginalized people. His contribution as a defence minister of our country will be remembered by posterity. His demise is an irreparable loss.” The Minister also prayed to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed his condolences to members of the bereaved family.
