GUWAHATI: "The victory of the Indo-Pak war of 1971 has always instilled a sense of self-pride and self-confidence in the country and the countrymen," said Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi at the inauguration of the celebration of Vijay Diwas at a function held in the convention and training centre of PWD, in the city on Friday.

The Governor while inaugurating the programme organized by Seemanta Chetna Mancha Purvottar to commemorate the victory of India over Pakistan in the year 1971, said, "As an elated and grateful nation, we are celebrating the Vijay Diwas to mark the historic victory of the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The country will always be indebted to those brave sons. On this golden occasion, I pay my tributes to all those immortal soldiers of the country who sacrificed their lives in the Indo-Pak war of 1971."

Prof. Mukhi also said that in the continuous development of the country, the need for security, education, health, cooperation and self-reliance of the people living along the border areas cannot be ignored. Many a times they face challenges which are very serious in nature. Sometimes they are misled by the anti-social forces. Therefore, the people living along the border areas need special attention. He also said that government from time-to-time has been taking several schemes for their welfare.

The Governor hailed the efforts of Seemanta Chetna Manch Purvottar for working to inculcate the feeling of nationalism among the people living in the border areas. Continuous efforts are being made by this organization for the security, peace, prosperity and unity of the families living in the border areas. The Governor also appealed to all the workers of the organization to give more emphasis on the campaign so that every citizen living along the border areas of the country should feel proud of being an Indian.

Seemanta Chetna Mancha Purvottar is a socio-cultural and non-political organization working for the noble cause of promoting safety, security and overall development of the international border areas of North Eastern Region of India.

Former VC of Himachal Central University, Dr. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, Major General (Retd) Bhaskar Kalita, and a host of dignitaries were present.
