Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi opens workshop on Ayurveda

GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi inaugurated a one-day workshop on “Ayurveda for Public Health” as a part of the celebration of 3rd National Ayurveda Day organized by the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homeopathy (NEIAH) at Vivekananda Kendra, Uzanbazar in Guwahati on Friday. Prof. Mukhi said, “Ayurveda is an ancient Indian system of medicine which stresses principally prevention of ailments rather than simply addressing the problems. In fact, Ayurveda is believed to be the oldest medical science of the human civilization”. The Governor said that the traditional medicine particularly herbal medicine is considered as a major healthcare provider around the globe. This is especially true in respect of the Northeast which is known for its rich flora and fauna. The practice of traditional or folk medicines by the ethnic groups in the Northeast is based on age-old experiences accumulated through observation of natural factors, climatic demands etc, a press release issued from Raj Bhawan said.
