Guwahati: Assam Government on Saturday announced a new set of SOPs for air passengers travelling in and out of Assam. The updated norms have relaxed the COVID testing rules to a great extent. Anyone travelling from Assam and returning within 24 hours need not go for COVID-19 tests.

Addressing a media briefing here, State Finance, Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that passengers coming in from outside Assam will not have to undergo any COVID test if they had already done a test in their place of origin, 72-hours before travelling. They will have to carry the necessary documents and test report details.

Sarma also mentioned that children below 10 years of age do not have to undergo mandatory COVID testing. It completely depends upon the parents if they want their child to go through the nasal swab test.

Foreign diplomats including people from multilateral agencies like UNESCO, UNICEF also do not have to go for mandatory COVID test on arriving in Assam. Officials on covert missions, where they have to conceal their identities are also exempted from mandatory COVID-testing. All diplomats and officials will either have to inform the Deputy Commissioner or show their I-Cards on arrival.
