Air passengers’ home isolation to be about 5 days now, down from earlier 10 days.

The Health & Family Welfare Department Government of Assam on Friday has issued a Standard Operating Procedure order for persons arriving in Guwahati by air.

The order stated that they will have to undergo Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) at a designated testing center after he/she lands in and the Kamrup (Metro) district administration will make necessary arrangements in this regard.

''If the RAT result is positive, the person shall undergo home isolation and treatment in COVID Care Centre or hospital, as per protocol'' the order stated.

However, if the RAT test comes out negative, the passenger's swab sample would be taken for RT-PCR testing. The RT-PCR tests can be both free and paid as per the choice of the passenger.

The free RT-PCR tests will be arranged by the State Government and the test result will be available within 3-5 days of the collection of the swab test at the designated testing center. The person will have to remain in home isolation for the next 5 days until the declaration of the test result. Further, the person will be hand stamped during the collection of samples and a home isolation notice will be pasted in a person's residence.

Paid RT-PCR test will be done by agencies at the designated testing center on payment of the requisite fee, as may be stipulated from time to time. The test results will be provided by the agency within 24 hours. The person will have to remain in isolation in his/ her residence until the hour of the test result. The person will accordingly be hand stamped. Although, pasting of home isolation posters will not take place.

The statement also added that if the person is tested positive, the person shall undergo home isolation treatment in COVID Care Centre or hospital. However, if the RT-PCR test result is negative, the person will continue to monitor his/her health for the next 14 days and report to the nearest hospital in case of emergency of any symptoms.
