The Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), world-renowned scientist Dr. Sreedhara Panicker Somanath, will be visiting Guwahati on January 17 to take part in an event organized by Pragjyotishpur University.

GUWAHATI: The Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), world-renowned scientist Dr. Sreedhara Panicker Somanath, will be visiting Guwahati on January 17 to take part in an event organized by Pragjyotishpur University. The announcement came from the university after the scientists accepted their invitation to the event.

Dr. Sreedhara Panicker Somanath is the chief scientist of the space exploration agency and led the team of scientists that made possible the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the moon’s south pole. The internationally renowned scientist will attend a programme to be organized by the university on January 17, in which he will both be felicitated and participate in an interaction with students.

“The administration of the newly established Pragjyotishpur University in Guwahati is organising a special programme to celebrate the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission and, recently, that of the Aditya-L1 mission, along with to facilitate his interaction with the students,” informed Dr. Jogesh Kakati, Professor and Registrar at the university, adding that Dr. Sreedhara Panicker Somanath shall be felicitated on the day of the event.

Since that day coincides with Silpi Divas, a lamp-lighting ceremony followed by the garlanding of the image of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala shall formally open the felicitation-cum-interaction programme.

The programme will be held from 3:00 PM onwards at the Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium at Sankaradev Kalakshetra, Guwahati. Students from across disciplines, particularly final-year higher secondary and undergraduate students, are welcome to participate in the programme and avail themselves of the privilege of interacting with the ISRO chief.

For participation, interested students are to register themselves by filling out a Google form (open until January 9) that has been made available on the institutional website by the administration of Pragjyotishpur University.

Pragjyotishpur University was established by the Shankardev Education and Research Foundation.
