GUWAHATI: The Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) celebrated its 84th Foundation Day in the Assembly premises on Wednesday. The formal meeting chaired by Speaker of the ALA Hitendra Nath Goswami was attended by a host of dignitaries. Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, Metbah Lyngdoh, Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly dwelt on the long history and bond of brotherhood between the Legislative Assemblies of the two States, i.e. Assam and Meghalaya. Congratulating the entire staff of the ALA he wished that this bond will remain tight in the years to come.

While speaking on the occasion, State Fisheries Minister Parimal Suklabaidya expressed his hope that ALA, with its new initiatives would be recognized by all in the near future. Former Members of Assam Legislative Assembly Dr. Nagendra Nath Sarma and Hiranya Bora also attended the programme, while Deputy Speaker of ALA Aminul Haque Lasker delivered the welcome address.

In the Chairperson's remarks, Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami hoped that ALA would soon be able to go paperless and conduct e-assembly, the preparations for which have already been rolled out.

On the occasion of its Foundation Day, the ALA gave away several awards, out of which, the Award for Best Reporting on assembly proceedings was bagged by Pranjal Pratim Bhuyan from the Assam Tribune House.

A souvenir was also released on the occasion. The formal meeting was followed by a cultural evening, stated a release.
