Assam Legislative Assembly to hold one-day special session on January 13, 2020

GUWAHATI: The Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) is going to hold a one-day special session on January 13, 2020. The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the ALA that met here on Monday decided that the session would start with the Governor’s speech and there would be a debate on the speech. During the session, the government is set to bring a resolution for the extension of SC and ST reservation for another ten years through a Constitutional amendment.

With the heat on the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) still to cool down in the State, the issue is likely to generate heat on the floor of the Assembly as well during the debate on the Governor’s speech. Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia has already told the media that his party will raise the issue of CAA during the session.
