Assam Movement Leader Ghulam Murtaza Ahmed passes away at GMCH

GUWAHATI: Assam Movement Leader Ghulam Murtaza Ahmed passed away at GMCH (Guwahati Medical College and Hospital) on Sunday. He was 69 years old and was unwell since a few days. Ahmed was a social worker, debater and the former General Secretary of Pragjyotish College. Various leaders expressed grief over his demise and shared their condolences. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Ghulam Murtaza Ahmed’s contribution towards the society will be cherished by everyone”. Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary in a condolence statement said, “Ghulam Murtaza was a popular leader of Assam Movement. He was an ardent social worker and known for his organizational capacity, honesty and patriotism. His demise is an irreparable loss to our society”. AASU (All Assam Students’ Union) chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya and vice president Bipul Rabha visited Ahmed’s Santipur residence and paid tribute.
