Assam Police Busts Gambling Dens Around Guwahati City

GUWAHATI: With the festival of lights, a mushroom growth of gambling dens in several parts of the city is also apparent. Even with the city police on vigil, nothing can dither the gambling mafia from having a field day on Diwali.

The ever popular game during this time is Jhandi Munda, which is a traditional Indian betting game, however, like all other betting games, is illegal in the State.

One arrest has been made over the Jhandi Munda betting game at Dispur police station and a case registered. Similarly, three arrests have been made at Bhangagarh police station and one case registered. Two arrested made at Sathgaon police station and one case registered. Paltanbazar police managed to bust eight Jhandi Munda betting dens, however, the gamblers managed to flee.

Meanwhile, two cases have been registered at Basistha police station for bursting fire crackers after the stipulated 10 pm time limit.
