Assam Police Captures Inter-State Mobile Thieves Gang In Nagaon, 134 Cellphones Recovered

GUWAHATI: On Saturday, Nagaon police arrested an inter-state mobile thieves gang in a nighttime operation.

A total of 134 stolen cellphones were also recovered by the police team. Raj Kumar and Sonu Kumar Nonia, both from Sahebganj, Jharkhand, were detained by a squad commanded by IC Haibergaon and SI Taranga Patowary.

More research is now being carried out.

Earlier in such a similar case Dispur police arrested a thief on 23rd August for allegedly stealing two phones and a laptop from Hengrabari area in Guwahati. During the search, the phone with the original owner was found to be still active and thus contacted. The thief used abusive language and threatened the informant and demanded 50 thousand rupees. Later an FIR was lodged against the thief. 

On September 9th another incident occurred where Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel nabbed a mobile phone thief in Guwahati Railway Station. RPF personnel were on duty at Guwahati Railway Station when they spotted a child getting off the moving train in a suspicious manner as train number. 05910 UP Avadh Assam Express was departing from the station. The crew apprehended the child right away, and when questioned, he failed to show any travel tickets or provide an acceptable explanation for his presence at the railway station. When the police team searched the youngster, they discovered an Oppo Android phone in his hands. 

When pressed, he was unable to unlock the phone's pattern lock. When pressed further, the child revealed that he travelled to Guwahati on the 05910 UP Avadh Assam Express from New Bongaigaon station, and that when the train was travelling between Kamakhya and Guwahati, he took a phone from a passenger in a sleeper carriage who was deep asleep. 

Because he was a vagrant, the youngster had no idea where he came from. As a result, the child was apprehended and transported to RPF Post Guwahati, along with the recovered phone. The detained child, along with the confiscated cell phone, was turned over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Guwahati Railway Station after all procedures were completed.
