Assam Polls 2021: Congress candidates leave Sonapur resort

GUWAHATI: The Congress candidates returned to their homes on Sunday from a resort in Sonapur on the city outskirts. They had arrived at the resort on Thursday in an apparent effort to shield themselves from any attempt of poaching by the ruling party.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora said that the candidates assembled and discussed various issues in a constructive manner. He said the camp ended on Sunday.

Giving an indirect reply to the question of horse trading, Bora said that the BJP has money and muscle power as well as the support of the administration. "Under such circumstance there are reasons to be apprehensive. But we are united," he said. 'Anchalik Gana Morcha' candidate Manjit Mahanta said they had discussed various common issues during their camp at the resort. He has contested the Assembly elections from Dispur. The 'Anchalik Gana Morcha' is an ally of the Congress-led 'Grand Alliance'.
