Assam Pradesh Congress Committee Demands Reservation Rules Be Followed

GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), G S Sailen Bora, has submitted a memorandum to the Principal Secretary of Panchayat and Rural Development of Assam. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has appealed that the reservation rules laid down in the Assam Panchayat Raj Act, 1994 be followed in the selection of the Zilla Parishad Chairmen.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has urged Panchayat and Rural Development to abide by the rules and regulations pertaining to the reservation norms of the elected candidates laid down in the Assam Panchayat Raj Act, 1994 in the selection of the Zila Parishad Chairmen. Bora said, “This appeal is made keeping in view the present Government’s political interference in the functioning of almost all the democratic and constitutional bodies of the state.” As such, APCC has urged Panchayat and Rural Development to secure lawful formation of Zilla Parishads based on Reservation and Rotation.
