GUWAHATI: An executive meeting of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) was held at the Rajiv Bhawan here on Sunday, the first such meeting after Bhupen Kumar Bora took over as president of the State unit of the party.

According to Congress sources, the meeting dwelt mainly on the ongoing membership drive, holding of organizational elections, the political scenario, the state of the economy, unemployment, education and land-related scandals.

Taking to the media, Bhupen Kumar Bora said that henceforth, all office-bearers from the booth level to the APCC president will have to get elected in intra-party polls and the election process will start from April 7.

The ongoing membership drive will continue till the organizational elections are held. So far, 15 lakh new members have joined the Congress, as against the target of enlisting 33 lakh new members, he said. Each general secretary of the APCC will visit various districts of the State to provide impetus to the membership drive he added.

A meeting of all APCC office-bearers will be held on Monday, Bora informed.
