GUWAHATI: A delegation of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Monday met Assam's Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and urged him to take suo moto cognizance and register a case against a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA who recently threatened to kill a police officer at Narayanpur.

The delegation further asked the DGP to ascertain the legality of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's act of publicly scolding the Deputy Commissioner of Nagaon recently. The APCC wanted to know if Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police have any responsibility in security arrangements for a person with 'Z-Plus' security cover.

The APCC leaders later claimed that the DGP refrained from answering these questions regarding the Chief Minister's security.

Earlier, addressing the media at the Rajiv Bhawan here, APCC president Bhupen Kumar Borah criticized the functioning and behaviour of members of the State Government. He claimed that Assam is now experiencing the rule of "undisciplined and reckless" persons.

On the other hand, Borah informed that due to the grim COVID-19 situation the APCC has decided to defer the 'Brainstorming Session' which was scheduled to be held at Tezpur from January 24 to January 26.
