GUWAHATI: The Assam Secretariat observed the Anti-terrorism Day today when Additional Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur administered the pledge of anti-terrorism day to the officials of the secretariat. On this occasion, the pledge was taken to prevent all forms of terrorism and violence with all forces while maintaining unwavering faith in the Indian tradition of non-violence and tolerance. It was also resolved to fight against the divisive forces that threaten human life and human values by maintaining peace, social harmony and understanding among all.

On this day in 1991, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a suicide bomber in Tamil Nadu. Since then, every year 21st May is observed as Anti-terrorism day across the country to sensitize everyone about the horrors and adverse effects of terrorism, a press release said.
