GUWAHATI: The Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) registered a total of 98 cases related to violation of child rights in 2021, out of which the highest number of 37 cases pertained to the violation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to data made available by the ASCPCR, the other cases related to the violation of child rights (four cases), child labour (seven cases), corporal punishment (two cases), child marriage (six cases), child in need of care and protection (20 cases), deprivation from right to education (five cases), child trafficking/missing/abduction/kidnapping (six cases) and others such as murder/suicide (11).

On the other hand, according to police sources as many as 7,200 cases of crimes against children were registered in various police stations of the State in the 11-month period between January, 2021 and November 30, 2021. Out of these, 1,850 cases were registered in October and November.
