Assam State Zoo Celebrates Birth of Black Panther Cubs

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Sept 11: Amidst series of allegations of poor management gripping the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden, the authority celebrated the birth of two Black Panther cubs on Saturday. The father of the cubs is a zoo-raised Black Panther named as Mohan, who was rescued five years ago. At that time, Mohan was just four months old, and since then he was raised in the zoo. On the other hand, Meena was rescued from Dibrugarh in December 2017. She strayed into a village and was injured, and was then brought to the Assam State Zoo. Both Meena and Mohan were paired up together in April last this year. Notably, the number of Black Panther has risen to 6 after the two new births.
