Assam Tourism Started New Initiative Named “Guwahati Heritage Walk”

GUWAHATI: With a view to make tourists aware of the heritage, history, and culture of the Guwahati city, Assam tourism department has started a new innovative initiative named “Guwahati Heritage Walk” on Friday. It is pertinent to note that Dhubri citizens initiated a similar walk previously.

In the presence of the tour operators’ association members, chairman of ATDC Jayanta Malla Baruah launched the programme. During the launching ceremony, the director of Assam tourism Deba Kumar Mishra and the MD of ATDC Bhaskar Phukan were also present.

As per a press release, the main aim of this tour is to show the metropolitan heritage sites to the domestic and foreign tourists through the morning commute. The chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation, Jayanta Malla Baruah opened the tour at 5 am. The tour had started from the nearest North Brook Gate of Sukreswar Temple, then Cotton College, Latasil, Jurpukhuri, Ujanbazar, Chatrakar Dewalaya and ended up at Raj Bhawan. The Assam Tourism divisions were requested to continue this attempt to extend the field of Assam Tourism.

Renowned doctor Jayanta Biswa Sarma from Assam, currently practicing in New Castle, UK participated in the program and appreciated the initiative. He also cited the outcomes of walking as an exercise along with maintaining eco and sustainable tourism. Sarma urged the government to promote this program on a vast scale.
