Assam Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Supports Strike By Defence Civilian Employees

GUWAHATI: All Assam Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Assam State Committee extends all support and soliditary to the three days strike called on January 23 to 25, 2019. The strike has been generated jointly by the three federations of 4 lakh Defence Civilian Employees against privatization and outsourcing of defence production and demanding scraping of the new pension system.

The three major Federations of the Defence Civilian Employees (AIDEF, INDWF and BPMS) have jointly given the strike call protesting against the retrograde policy decisions taken by the BJP led NDA Government to open the door of Defence Production and related activities to the Private Corporate houses.

AITUC General secretary, Ramen Das said, “The Narendra Modi Government have also decided to close down various Army Units like Military Farms supplying pure milk to the soldiers, many workshops and Army Base Workshops which are giving second life to the used Defence Equipment, thereby saving huge money to the Indian Army including foreign exchange. More than 31 thousand employees of these Army Units are declared surplus and are being given notices for posting them out to far places”

Defence Civilian Employees stated that the efforts taken to settle the above issues through negotiation have failed and the Defence Minister has given a deaf ear to such a major issue, which is going to affect the National Security of our country. Therefore, left with no option, they decided to strike for three days.

Das commented, “The AITUC Assam State Committee opposes the policies of the government and supports the three days united strike called by the Defence Civilian Employees.”
