GUWAHATI: October 21 is observed as Police Commemoration Day. This day marks the sacrifice of 10 CRPF men who lost their lives during a Chinese attack in 1959. The programme at 1st Bn SSB Sonapur commenced with the arrival of chief guest R. K. Bhumla, IG, Ftr. Guwahati, followed by a Shaheed Pushtika carry drill. The guard saluted the martyr’s book, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony and Shok Shastra drill to honour the martyrs. RK Bhumbla,IG Ftr Hqr SSB Guwahati read out the names of the martyrs and also presented momentos to the martyrs’ families in Dimoria Block.

Besides, saplings were planted by R.K. Bhumbla, IG Ftr. Guwahati SSB, in the name of martyrs. Various activities, like weapon displays, photo exhibitions, and quiz competitions based on the topic, were conducted for the schoolchildren. Prizes were distributed to the winners. B. S. Jaswal, DIG (Admn), Frontier Hqrs SSB Guwahati, Sonam Bodh, DIG (OPS), Arvind Verma, Commandant, Frontier Hqrs SSB Guwahati, and Anuj Kumar, Offg. Commandant, 1st Bn SSB Sonapur, and other officers and officials of all ranks attended the programme, stated a press release.
