GUWAHATI: The election campaign for third phase of Assembly Election 2021 will end 48 hours prior to the close of polls. In this regard the election campaign in four constituencies in Kamrup Metro District under phase III will come to an end at 6:00 pm on April 4, i.e. 48 hours prior to the close of poll on April 6. This is in accordance with the Election Commission's Guidelines under the provision enacted in the section 126 of Representation of Peoples' Act 1951. During this period no person shall convene, hold or attend, join or address any public meetings, processions etc. It also prohibits propagation of any matter to the public by holding any musical concert or any theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement with view of attracting the member of public, in the polling areas during the period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of the poll. The objective of such prohibitions is to provide a silence period to the electors in the run up to the actual polling day. Violation of prohibition will attract punishment of imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine or with both, stated a release.
