At least 300 litres of illicit country made liquor destroyed in Guwahati

Guwahati: The Excise Department on Friday launched an operation in Maligaon area of Guwahati and destroyed at least 300 litres of the illicit country-made liquor.

As per the Excise Department report, no person has been apprehended in connection to the matter so far. However, the department has been continuing with its regular operation at regular intervals.

The Department also informed that the production of the illicit country-made liquor is rampant in Friday Bazaar in Maligaon for the last couple of months.

On the other hand, several tea garden workers had died after consuming contaminated liquor in Golaghat’s Salmara Tea Estate. Also, few of the tea garden workers were referred to Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) for better medication.

It may be mentioned that till Friday evening, 40 (approx) tea garden workers including ladies had lost their lives over the night and over 50 plus workers were undergoing medical treatment in both Golaghat Civil Hospital and JMCH.

The Excise Department earlier informed The Sentinel Digital that they have apprehended two persons in connection to the incident on Friday morning

Meanwhile, the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announces a probe into the matter to determine the cause of incident and lapses which could have led to such an incident.
