GUWAHATI: A SWAYAM-NPTEL awareness workshop was conducted by Cotton University in association with NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning), IIT Madras, on Monday. The workshop aimed at briefing participants on NPTEL, online certification courses, exam process, credit transfer, Faculty Development Programme (FDP) courses, domain certificates, NPTEL self-paced courses, internships and soft skill training through NPTEL, the concept of a local chapter as a way to partner with the NPTEL, and many other student-friendly initiatives, among others.

The senior manager of the NPTEL office, IIT Madras Shib Sankar Das, who has been a pioneer in popularising online learning in India, was the resource person for the workshop. “NPTEL courses bridge the gap between what is required by the industry and what is offered by educational institutions. The key focus is on making students better employable”, he highlighted.

Das also appealed to the participating faculty members to consider NPTEL online certification courses for CAS (Career Advancement Scheme)-based promotions and explore new domains of knowledge. “NPTEL not only caters to students and faculty members but also to industry professionals, as many industries are using these courses to train their staff”, he added. An interactive session also took place during the workshop.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks, which was delivered by SWAYAM Coordinator of Cotton University and convenor of the workshop, Dr. Manas Jyoti Kakati. The workshop was moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Sangeeta Barthakur and attended by faculty members of Cotton University and other educational institutions such as Girijananda Chowdhury University, Dakshin Kamrup College, Saraighat College, National Law University, and the Judicial Academy, to name a few, stated a press release.
