GUWAHATI: At a time when politics is out to widen the Brahmaputra-Barak divide, writers of the State are trying their best to cement the relationship between the two valleys and their peoples.
The premier literary organization of Assam, Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX), has taken a decision to hold the Jyoti Divas, the birth anniversary of Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala at the Silchar Axam Xahitya Xabha and Assam University premise. The move is being taken under the aegis of the Cachar Zila Xahitya Xabha, Silchar Xahitya Xabha and Assam University Students’ Union. Jyoti Divas is on January 17.
In a statement issued to the press on January 13, AXX secretary general Padum Rajkhowa said: “AXX president Dr. Paramananda Rajbongshi is going to hoist the AXX flag at Silchar AXX premises on January 17 on the occasion of Jyoti Divas. It will be followed by the lighting of the lamp near the portrait of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala by Cachar Zila Koch Rajbongshi Samaj Unnayan Samiti president Phuldev Rajbongshi. Reception committee’s working president Hiranya Vijay Bhattacharjya and Silchar Xakha Xahitya Xabha president Samir Medi will lead paying of tribute to Rupkonwar. At 11-30 am the open session will be held with Paramananda Rajbongshi in the chair.
Another open session – Tore more alukore jatra – will be held in Bipin Chandram Paul Auditorium of Assam University from 4 pm.
