Employees of the Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) on Wednesday called off their strike, which had been going on since December 5 last, after the AXX released five month’s pending pay.

GUWAHATI: Employees of the Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) on Wednesday called off their strike, which had been going on since December 5 last, after the AXX released five month's pending pay. Talking to The Sentinel, president of the employees' welfare committee of the AXX Kanak Deka said that their salaries have not been paid since July, 2022. However, they have withdrawn their strike because today the AXX authority released five months' pending pay.

Deka said that the AXX authority has borrowed Rs 50 lakh from the Mukto Siksha Paithokrom Xonxod Puji to pay their pending salaries. He further informed that they have signed an agreement with the AXX authority, assuring not to undertake any agitational programme till March next. The decision regarding their remaining pay, including one month's arrear, will be taken by the new executive body of the AXX.

It may be mentioned that there are 42 employees working in 10 AXX offices, which are located at Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Guwahati, North Lakhimpur, Dhubri, Diphu, Silchar, Mangaldai and Jalah in the Barpeta district. These employees have been undertaking a series of agitational programmes off and on to press for payment of their outstanding due by the AXX authority.
