Beautification of GS Road in Guwahati underway

GUWAHATI: The Public Works Department (PWD) of Guwahati has taken up a Rs 47-crore project for the beautification of the GS Road, Guwahati.

With the preliminary works of the project already been started, the phase I of the project is expected to be completed by March 2019.

Under the project a sketch has been made for an 80-cm-wide and 11-km-long divider on the GS Road, excluding the flyovers. The estimated cost of the dividers is Rs 12 crore.

According to a PWD engineer, earlier dividers were very small and they were broken at several places. “We’re making them wider now,” he said, and added: “Now the divider will have pedestrian crosses of 200-300 metre each. Now on, the footpaths will be of colourful fabric tiles (fibre reinforced polymer plate). The budget of the footpath is estimated to be Rs 35 crore. Phase I of the project is to cover from Ulubari to Ganeshguri, and phase II to cover from Ganeshguri to Khanapara.”
