Bengali United Forum of Assam (BUFA) terms Tinsukia incident as 'Government conspiracy'

GUWAHATI: The Bengali United Forum of Assam (BUFA) has said that the Dhola killing in Tinsukia district in the State is a conspiracy hatched by the government to divert issues it is confronting.

Talking to the media in Guwahati on Friday, Arun Roy, a steering committee member of the BUFA, said: “Yesterday’s killing in a conspiracy hatched by the government. As and when there is a political crisis in Assam, some Bengalis are killed to divert issues. We saw such killings in Assam during the rules of the Congress and the AGP. This time around, we’ve seen it under the BJP rule. We demand a judicial inquiry into the killing. Bengali-speaking Assamese have all along been victims of political conspiracies in the State. Some Bengali organizations are puppets at the hand of political parties. Around 4,000 Bengalis have been killed in Assam. Why hasn’t the government made the Tiwari Commission report public as yet?”

Shantanu Mukherjee, another steering committee member of the BUFA, said: “If the five persons have been killed for being Bengalis, let the perpetrators kill the 70 lakh Bengalis of Assam. We demand the government to arrest the killers within seven days.”

Mukherjee further said: “The State Home Department has utterly failed to rein in on the social media. Provocative statements are made in the social media. A section of people are still making provocative statements in the social media even after the killing of five innocent people at Dhola in Tinsukia district. Arrest them – be them the likes of Aminul Islam of the AIUDF or Shiladitya Dey of the BJP.”
