GUWAHATI: The State BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has asserted that the forthcoming election will be contested to safeguard the language, culture and literature of the State.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, State BJP media panelist Debajit Mahanta slammed the Congress by stating that the latter is trying to come to power by allying with the AIUDF. Mahanta underlined that the alliance between the Congress and the AIUDF is an 'unholy' one.

"The alliance is bad indication for the State. We don't consider the AIUDF as a political party but as an enemy of the State. The Congress is trying to win the polls by sitting on the lap of the AIUDF.

"Despite attacking many times, the Mughal couldn't defeat the indigenous people of Assam. Similarly, we hope the people will fight to safeguard the culture of the State," said Mahanta.

Further, he argued that the demography of the State is changing.

"The Hari Shankar Brahma Committee Report reveals that in 13 districts of the State, the minority population have become majority. Nalbari, Kamrup, and Cachar have 36 per cent minority population who plays an important role in elections. However, when the Hari Shankar Brahma Committee Report was published, the so called Jatiyatabadi organizations maintained silence," Mahanta said.

He stressed that the BJP has worked for the development of every section of people.

"The people from the minority communities have been benefitted by various beneficiary schemes introduced by the State government. Most of the beneficiaries are from Barpeta, Dhubri, and Nagaon districts. Despite having no MLAs in 39 constituencies, around 15,000 to 20,000 people have been benefited through our schemes in those constituencies," Mahanta underlined.

He highlighted that the BJP has given party tickets to 10 candidates belonging from minority communities. He also made it clear that 'minority' doesn't mean only Muslims but Sikhs, Jains and Christians.
