BIEO unearths GST evasion of over Rs 1.38 crore

GUWAHATI: Acting upon reliable information, a team of senior officials of the Bureau of Investigation (Economic Offences) (BIEO) recently seized several consumer items from the parcel vans of the Rajdhani Express at the Guwahati Railway Station and uncovered GST evasion to the tune of over Rs 1.38 crore. According to BIEO sources, the seized items included gutka, pan masala, dolls, clothes, mobile phone chargers, clove oil, ladies' handbags etc. All the items were found without any valid documents or invoices. An enquiry (vide No. BIEO/5(02)2022 dated 27/02/2022 U/S 129(1) (b) of AGST Act, 2017) was instituted in this connection and subsequently, the transporter of the items, one Amarendra Singh of M/s TNS Express Pvt. Ltd., was asked to show necessary documents pertaining to the items. On his failure to produce the relevant documents, the BIEO imposed a penalty of over Rs 1,38,31,375, the sources said.
