GUWAHATI. The annual Ramlila-cum-Ravan Dahan event will be held this year after a gap of four years to mark the occasion of Bijoya Dashami on October 5 next.

According to a press release, the Asom Bijoya Dashami Mahotsav Samity is planning to erect a 111-foot tall effigy of Ravan, which shall be one of the main attractions of the event. Ramlila will also be conducted by India's famous sand artist Nitish Bharati for one hour, which shall be displayed on a mega LED screen at the Nehru Stadium here.

This Ramlila event was started in the 1970s Late RG Baruah along with Ram Niranjan Goenka and other eminent personalities.

With gaps in between, RN Goenka kept organizing this mega event with a small team for several years. This year he was planning for a high-tech event, but unfortunately he left this world on May 4 last. As a mark of reverence to his wish, the committee is working hard to fulfil the last wish of its founder member.

The committee also informed that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has consented to be the chief guest and inaugurator of the event. Actress Nishita Goswami will be the Goodwill Ambassador of the event.
