GUWAHATI: The Bishwakarma Puja celebrations in the city on Thursday will be a low-key affair due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The puja will be celebrated by following all the protocols and a set of guidelines issued by the district administration.
This year, there is no buzz in the markets compared to yesteryears. People's response in buying idols and decorative items has also been lukewarm. Thus, the artisans engaged in the business of selling idols are in distress. "We have not brought large idols like every other year. Every year we sell around 200 idols but this year we have only sold around 10," said a roadside artisan. "I brought the idols from Goalpara. This is a season for us but this year we are facing a tough situation due to the pandemic. People are also not buying flowers, garlands and other decorative items. We hope the business will not be same the following year," another artisan added.
