GUWAHATI: Even though barely a four-month working period is to go for the coalition government in the State, the two major coalition partners – the BJP and the AGP – are to start their talks on the Assembly polls after the Durga Puja.

The Election Commission is set to declare the Assembly elections in the State in the first part of March 2021 and the poll is stated for April.

According to sources, both the AGP and the BJP are eager to continue their alliance in this Assembly poll as well. While BJP is convinced without alliance with the AGP it may lose some of the seats, the AGP knows the reality that without the help of the BJP its survival will be at stake, sources said.

The AGP has 14 seats under it at present. However, the BJP has evinced interest in fielding candidates in a few of the 14 seats currently under the AGP, sources said, and added that the AGP is also interested to field candidates in a few of the seats held by the BJP. All such issues are likely to be sorted out during their formal talks after the Durga Puja, sources said.

After forming the government, the AGP and the BJP fought the panchayat poll separately, but fought the Lok Sabha poll together.
