GUWAHATI, Aug 31: The BJP Assam Pradesh has hit back at AICC’s Assam in-charge Harish Rawat and reminded him of the failure on the part of the successive Congress governments at the Centre and in the State in the past.

Earlier in the day on Friday, Rawat brought some serious charges against the BJP government on the Rafale deal and the government’s failure on other fronts.

In a statement issued to the press later in the day, State BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami said: “Rafale deal was initiated in 2000 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister. The UPA Government which succeeded the NDA regime failed to complete the deal. With the present NDA government clinching the deal, the Congress has been suffering from frustrations.”

Goswami said: “The fiscal health of Assam was very bad when Tarun Gogoi was the Chief Minister. He went leaving debt burden of Rs 18,000 crore on the State. Besides reducing the debt burden, the present government at Dispur is working for the development of the State. It has also waged a war against corruption. The UPA regime was full scams like 2G, 3G and the like.”
