BJP Rejects Congress Charges on Bogibeel Bridge

GUWAHATI: A day after the Opposition Congress accused the ruling BJP of using the inauguration of Bogibeel bridge for political purpose, the ruling party on Thursday countered the allegation saying that the pace of progress of construction of the bridge was at its peak during the last four years of the NDA regime at the Centre and the Congress had no major contribution in the bridge construction.

State BJP minority cell chief Syed Mominul Awal told reporters here on Thursday that according to local people residing in and around the Bogibeel Bridge, only the pillars of the bridge were constructed during the previous Congress regimes. “So let the people decide who really contributed towards construction of the Bogibeel Bridge,” he said.

Leader of Congress Legislature Party Debabrata Saikia on Wednesday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi lacked political culture as former Prime ministers HD Deve Gowda and Dr Manmohan Singh (who played crucial role in the progress of contruction of Bogibeel Bridge) were not invited to the inauguration function.

Refusing to comment more on Bogibeel, Awal alleged that four lakh bogus job cards were issued in Assam during the previous Congress regime which only exposed the Opposition party’s double standard on the issue of creating employment.
