BJP trying to divide Assam in the line of religion: AIUDF

GUWAHATI, Oct 13: Stating that AIUDF has no intention to occupy the chief minister’s position of the State, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal stressed that BJP led NDA government is trying to polarise the people of Assam in the line of religion right before the panchayat poll. “Regional parties like AGP and BPF have been an alliance of this plot,” Ajmal said.

Talking to the reporters here on Saturday, Ajmal said for the greater interest of the people of Assam, keeping aside the caste, creed and religion, all the regional political parties of the state should stand united to defeat BJP’s divide and rule politics. “BJP is trying to obliterate the age-old brotherwood, integrity and shared social lives of the people of Assam by enforcing the divide and rule politics on the basis of religion,” Ajmal said.

Ajmal further maintained that AIUDF has never indulged in communal politics. “Instead, unnecessarily blaming the AIUDF, the ruling BJP has been resorting to religion to divide the people of Assam,” he alleged. Appealing both AGP and BPF to leave the ruling BJP, Ajaml added, “We will extend unconditional support to the AGP if they are ready to lead the regional parties for the greater interest of the State.”
